Mexican Cantera Opal necklace

£180
Fire opal is associated particularly with Mexico and is mined in the Mexican states of Queretaro, Hidalgo, Guerrero, Michoacan, Julisio, Chihuahua and San Luis Potosi. The most important mines in Queretaro were discovered in 1835 and are still producing today. Some opal from Mexico exhibits a bluish or golden internal sheen; this is known as Mexican water opal or hydrophanous opal, rather than as Mexican fire opal. Cantera opal is a trade name used for fire opal that has been cut with its host rock intact. For ages people have believed in the healing power of opal. It is reported to be able to solve depression and to help its wearer find true and real love. Opal is also said to stimulate originality and creativity. This beautiful cantera opal has beautiful translucency and a gorgeous green and orange play of colours. Measuring at 16.5mm x 13.5mm x 7mm. It hangs from an oxidised sterling silver bail and chain with wire wrapped welo opals and carnelian orange opals.
