5 FASHION EXHIBITIONS IN LONDON YOU CAN'T MISS IN 2021

Here are some of the notable fashion exhibitions in London you can’t miss in 2021: The Boutique in 1960s Counterculture, Lee Miller: Fashion in Wartime Britain, Shoephoria, Chintz: Cotton in Bloom, and Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser.

 

Beautiful People: The Boutique in 1960s Counterculture

Location: Fashion and Textile Museum

Time: 3rd September 2021 – 1st January, 2022.

In the mid-1960s, some Chelsea boutique started experimenting with over-the-top flamboyant designs. This ended up sparking a fashion revolution where the boundaries of genders were blurred and the explosion of colours and patterns were out of this world.

“The Beatles Apple Boutique – 1967”

This exhibition explores rare and beautiful examples of clothing from that era, worn by The Beetles, Jimi Hendrix, and The Rolling Stones alike. It has the power to take you back in time to the era of the fashion revolution.

 


Lee Miller: Fashion in Wartime Britain

Location: Farley’s House and Gallery

Time: 21st March – July, 2021

Lee Miller is an American Surrealist, fashion model and a photographer who captured fashion during the Second World War. This exhibition, hosted by the Farleys House and Gallery, will showcase the model’s and war correspondent’s wartime works which were predominantly shot for British Vogue.

This exhibition intends to show the fashion of that era all from factory wear to designer garments including designers like Bianca Mosca and Norman Hartnell.



Shoephoria

Location: Fashion Museum, UK

Time: 29th March, 2021

Shoephoria is an immersive exhibition that showcases 200 pairs of shoes and boots. It explores the fascinating history of shoemaking, taking a journey through time to showcase red velvet mules from the 1960s to a pair of Russian boots worn by lady Ottoline Morrell.

“The Shoephoria Event – Royalty Shoes”

This exhibition showcases how the shoes and footwear were designed for royalty and how that reached modern-day shoes like Converse or Sneakers. Collections from designers including Vivienne Westwood and Jimmy Choo will also be showcased. This is something which can’t be missed!



Chintz: Cotton in Bloom

Location: Fashion and Textile Museum, London, England

Time: 12th March – 15th August 2021

Bold colours, loud prints, vintage floral designs and exquisite period dresses will be the centre of this exhibition. This is an exhibition hosted by the Fashion and Textile Museum dedicated to the intricate art of printing patterns on cotton fabric which is called Chintz.

“Palempore: Chintz Technique – Cotton, painted and dyed”

 

This exhibition explores the art of chintz, showcasing more than 150 pieces from across the globe of different centuries. 

 


Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser

Location: Victoria and Albert Museum, London, England

Time: 27th March – 31st December, 2021 

Tumbledown the Rabbit hole in this Alice in Wonderland theatrical show by the V&A. This immersive theatrical show explores the origin, adaptations and reinventions of Alice in Wonderland.

It explores the influence of Lewis Carroll’s books and the different illustrations provided in it by John Tenniel, a famous illustrator. This exhibition includes concept art from Tim Burton’s adaptation of Alice in Wonderland and other Wonderland-ish fashion explored by designers such as Iris Van Herpen.
