Vintage Carved Soapstone Elephant Trinket Candle

A carved soapstone trinket box from India, its hinged lid worked in deep relief with an elephant framed by concentric circles and dense botanical scrollwork. The stone is a muted olive-green with natural variation running through it.

The box has been hand-poured with Soft Sandalwood - warm, creamy and quietly grounding, with notes of sandalwood, bergamot, saffron, cinnamon and lily over a base of cedarwood, amber, patchouli and coconut. A gentle fragrance that suits the weight and character of the vessel well.

This is a small candle with a modest amount of wax and a short burn time - it is offered primarily as a keepsake piece rather than a long-burning candle. Once the wax has gone, the box is yours to keep, use as jewellery or trinket storage, or display as it was always intended.

Soapstone has been carved in India for centuries. It is soft enough to work by hand, holds heat well, and polishes to a subtle sheen. Objects like this one were made for use - passed between hands, kept on dressing tables, carried in pockets.
