Wei Fengying (b.1933), from Fushun in Liaoning Province, was a Shenyang factory worker who grew up in poverty. Named a 'model worker', she contributed variously to production efficiency and technological innovations in her workplace and was the recipient of numerous other awards. in 1964 she attended the Third National People's Congress and was photographed shaking the hand of Chairman Mao.
